چکیده

Recent experimental and theoretical work in strongly correlated electron system necessitates a formulation to deal with 1d to 2d dimensional crossover and raises several interesting questions. A particularly interesting question is what happens to the 1d Luttinger liquid, as we go from 1d to 2d? The issue of dimensional crossover in lower dimensional systems is of great general interest, in particular the relationship between quantum liquids and dimensional crossover from 1d to 2d. Thus one may ask given a 1d Luttinger liquid, what happens if we go from 1d to 2d, does the Luttinger liquid end up as a Fermi liquid or a non-Fermi liquid [NFL] in 2d. More importantly and relevantly what are the conditions that determine which type of quantum liquid we will end up with. Looking ahead to future applications we need to know what parameters to tune in order to engineer 2d quantum liquids from their 1d counterparts. In other words what are the parameters that determine quantum phase transitions. Can the Luttinger liquid lead to stripe formation in high temperature superconducting [HTSC] materials in a natural way? Can we classify the quantum liquids existing in 1d, 2d and 3d under symmetry classes of quantum groups in practically meaningful way? What is the nature of dimensional phase transitions and how are these [i.e. dimensional phase transitions] made possible by interactions of quantum liquids. The main point of emphasis of the present note is that the Permanent address: Department of Physics, University of Peshawar, Peshawar, NWFP, Pakistan. Quantum current modeling in nano-transistors with a quantum dot

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) serve as a new class of ‘zero dimensional’ nanomaterial’s in thecarbon class with sizes below 10 nm. As light emitting nanocrystals, QDs are assembled from semiconductormaterials, from the elements in the periodic groups of II-VI, III-V or IV-VI, mainly thanks to impacts of quantum confinement QDs have unique optical properties such as brighter, highly pho...

High order perturbation study of the frustrated quantum Ising chain

In this paper, using high order perturbative series expansion method, the critical exponents of the order parameter and susceptibility in transition from ferromagnetic to disordered phases for 1D quantum Ising model in transverse field, with ferromagnetic nearest neighbor and anti-ferromagnetic next to nearest neighbor interactions, are calculated. It is found that for small value of the frustr...

Full capacitance matrix of coupled quantum dot arrays : static and dynamical effects

We numerically calculated the full capacitance matrices for both one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) quantum-dot arrays. We found it is necessary to use the full capacitance matrix in modeling coupled quantum dot arrays due to weaker screening in these systems in comparison with arrays of normal metal tunnel junctions. The static soliton potential distributions in both 1D and 2D array...

Possible one-dimensional 3He quantum fluid formed in nanopores.

Heat capacity measurements have been made down to 5 mK for 3He fluid films adsorbed in one-dimensional (1D) nanometer-scale pores, 28 A in diameter, preplated with 4He of 1.47 atomic layers. At low 3He density, the heat capacity shows a density-dependent, Schottky-like peak near 150 mK asymptoting to the value corresponding to a 2D Boltzmann gas at high temperatures. The peak behavior is attrib...

When the classical & quantum mechanical considerations hint to a single point; a microscopic particle in a one dimensional box with two infinite walls and a linear potential inside it

In this paper we have solved analytically the Schrödinger equation for a microscopic particle in a one-dimensional box with two infinite walls, which the potential function inside it, has a linear form. Based on the solutions of this special quantum mechanical system, we have shown that as the quantum number approaches infinity the expectation values of microscopic particle position and square ...
